ESLR's

 
1. Social Responsibility

Every student will demonstrate citizenship using the ability to contribute to creating positive change in our community, starting in the classroom, at the school and then moving out, concentrically, to include the neighborhood, city, state, and world by:

  1. demonstrating positive and productive citizenship through completion of community service
  1. displaying respect, tolerance, non-violence, self-confidence, dependability, self-control
  1. working collaboratively with other students and staff on projects and class assignments
  2. regulating own behavior and academic progress


2. Career Technical Education Exploration and Preparation

Every student will develop a school-to-career/work pathway and demonstrate the awareness of and the ability to take the next step(s) after high school by:

1. Beginning a career exploration process in the Entry program and post high school plan culminating during their Exit/Graduation process. This includes completing surveys on inherent/developed career interests, essays, projects/presentations and presenting a final Capstone Career Portfolio.

2. Improve Technological Skills across the academic curriculum.

3. Completing one or more of the following: a. 20 hours of a job shadow b.community college course     related to the student’s career interest c.minimum of one semester of successful participation in a Regional Occupation Program (ROP)/Career Technical Education (CTE) course d.RHS career
related applied arts course e. adult ed. course f. Science Camp Cabin Leadership Program
g. on-site IWE (Inside Work Experience)

Means of Evaluating: Survey results, ROP Certificate, Science Camp evaluation, online CareerLocker career evaluations, OWE (Outside Work Experience) evaluation, Letters of recommendation,  Exit Interview Survey, senior exit presentation, Capstone Career Portfolio, Google docs profile, Entry and Exit Tech survey, Rubric for #2

3. Core Academic Literacy
Every student will develop effective communication skills through improved  literacy skills, technology skills and math reasoning by:
.

  1. becoming  skillful and active readers and writers who use a variety of strategies  in all genres.
  2. understanding and using the variety of speaking and listening codes in English, including formal Standard English, according to appropriate  tasks and settings.
  3. making sense of mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
  4. expressing ideas using a variety of digital and other media.

Means of Evaluation: …............... Rubrics for essays, report writing, oral speaking, and note taking; portfolios; project rubrics; formal and informal quizzes and tests; work samples.

Intellectual and Knowledge development

Every student will further develop their academic proficiency. Students will understand their own academic strengths and areas for growth. They will utilize and develop higher order thinking skills through:

  1. engaging, rigorous, standards-based curriculum
  2. relevant and meaningful quarterly academic projects
  3. inspiring guest presenters, field trips, community based outreach
  4. opportunities to participate in extracurricular academic enrichment
  5. emphasis on interdisciplinary curriculum
  6. assessments and academic counseling that promote self reflection and meta-cognition


Means of evaluation: Exit portfolio, transcripts, school-wide writing, informal and formal assessments, projects, guest speakers, master schedule, work samples

We also recommended that we renumber the ESLERs accordingly:
1. social responsibility 2. thinking skills 3. vocational preparation 4. literacy 5. critical knowledge (was discussed as a possible additional ESLER)
We discussed Thinking Skills and the possibility of reworking this section to include specific cognitive skills such as social perspective and alternative reasoning impulse control and emotional management.
